What is Freemasonry?

Square and compasses– Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest non-political, non-religious, charitable and fraternal organisations.

– It instills in its members a moral and ethical approach to life. It teaches concern for people, care for the less fortunate and help for those in need.

– Its members are taught its principles (moral lessons & self-knowledge) by a series of ritual dramas – a progression of allegorical plays, which are learnt by heart and performed within each Lodge. These follow ancient forms, and use stonemasons customs and tools as allegorical guides.

  • Freemasonry can mean many different things to its members. For many, it is about making new friends & acquaintances. To others it is about helping deserving causes – making a contribution to society & family. For most, it is a mixture of all of these, and also proves a most enjoyable undertaking.
